So, I really hated my old blog. It was depressing to me... all the posts about wedding stuff.
I had to start a new one, out with the old in with the new.
Also this being [somewhat] the start of a new year I figured this was as good a time as any!
Lately, I have been up to a few things...
Travis and I moved into our first place together last November after living together for over 2 years. We have a cute little house and even though it's not "ours" and we are just renting, we couldn't be happier [pics coming soon]!
I finally work just one fulltime job and it is AWESOME not having to be so crazy busy all the time, however I just wish I could go back to Blue Boutique part time. But my schedule at Marriott doesn't work at all with their hours at Blue... sigh.
Becoming hippified [kinda, and yes that is a real word]. The older I get the more I worry about the environment...
-I discovered the amazingness of essential oils. Tea Tree oil is my absolute favorite right now.
-I make my own cleaners [mostly vinegar and essential oils or peroxide. The less chemicals in the house the better... the toilet however is the one exception, but that is mostly a mental thing.]
-I use coconut oil for EVERYTHING. Not even kidding, ask Travis, I talk about that stuff non-stop.
-Bar soap instead of plastic bottles of body wash. Less plastic and bars of soap are more concentrated and work better than watered down crap anyway. Then recently, I started using this awesome detox body soap from Perfectly Posh- called Gender Bender [name is because it's not gender specific. duh.]. It's black which was weird at first because it's a charcoal detox soap... it's been amazing for my skin issues [along with, you guessed it, coconut oil!] and it's good for the environment, which makes me feel a little bit better. I actually love all their products I have tried because they are all paraben/preservative/sulfate free. I can't wait to try more stuff! Especially the baby line, someday.
-I also went SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER FREE for two weeks. Yep, I tried this. I know you're thinking "you nasty!!!!" but it was pretty awesome and I will go back and write something about it, once my giant bottles of Joico run out. I couldn't bring myself to waste them. Sorry, I'm not that good at being a hippie.
-I no longer use shaving cream and my skin doesn't get half as dry now and I pretty much never get ingrown hairs. I use my Gender Bender soap or coconut oil.
-Recycling and using a lot less plastic. I loathe plastic, especially tupperware. My sister asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I asked for a glass tupperware set. Nothing is more disgusting to me than plastic tupperware. Ever noticed the food stains, especially when you microwave them? Or the smells that never come out? I don't are how "microwave safe" they say they are. Obviously the "pores" in the plastic are trapping food particles and smells... that is so gross to me. Not to mention what chemicals are coming out of the plastic... maybe I am being paranoid or dramatic, using glass makes me feel so much better. Plus it's non-porus and the most sanitary surface your money can buy.
-The only thing I hate more than plasic is teflon. Teflon is so incredibly horrible for you. Have you ever read the warning labels that say "Keep away from small respiratory systems while in use." Then it lists different pets... what else has small respiratory systems? Children. Teflon, aluminum and copper cookware is banned in countries where they have socialized medicine because it has been proven to cause cancer, tumors, Alzheimer's Disease, infertility and the list goes on AND ON... just from the fumes. Now when that scratches off and you ingest that crap, you can only imagine.
In 2015 the FDA will be stepping in and banning teflon and non-stick cookware. The only reason they haven't done it already is because they got so much pushback from NASA and the government because of the money that was spent inventing that shit in the first place. Doesn't that just make you sick? Makes me sick. Think it's all some big conspiracy? Look in to all the countries who have banned it and their medical studies. All of Europe and South America for starters... blegh. So we use only stainless cookware and our crockpot [sorry for the rant. I just hate that stuff and the stupid stuff our government does].
Last but not least, I am working on my health. I have started eating better and this week I started back on Herbalife. I know a lot of people out there have opinions about Herbalife, but my little sister got me on it about a year ago and I lost about 30 lbs of pure body fat in a little under 3 months... 30 lbs was only halfway to my goal and I honestly can't remember why I quit doing it because it was working wonders. Unfortunately, I did NOT maintain or continue my weightloss by eating better or exercising. If anything I ate worse and exercised less than I ever have in my life. Needless to say over the last year I have gained back my 30 lbs and then 7 more. No bueno. But, I'm back at it and hopefully I will be a little wiser this time. Maybe a post on that later too... maybe.
Anyhoo, aside from gaining a neice in July [expect to see a lot of her here] last year that's pretty much it.
I'm really looking forward to 2013, even though Travis and I have spent pretty much the entire month sick with some sort of something... other than that, this year looks promising!
Til next time,
Toodles!
